It was Blueberri’s birthday! Time to bake a cake. Kiwi loved rules. Tap, tap, tap. He pointed to the recipe book. “We must follow the book!” he said. “One, two, three bananas for the yummy banana cake.”
But Tang thought rules were boring. Wink! When Kiwi wasn’t looking, Tang added swirly, purple berries to the bowl. Plop! Plop!
The cake came out of the oven. It was not a good cake. It was a gooey, yucky, squishy mess. “Uh-oh!” cried Kiwi. “It’s not perfect! And we have no more bananas! What will we do?”
His friends had an idea. “Let’s use other fruits!” Kiwi was worried. It was not in the book. But he took a deep breath. “Okay,” he whispered. “Let’s try.”
Chop, chop, chop! Mix, mix, mix! They put in red strawberries and round blueberries. The new cake was so colorful!
Ding! The cake was ready. Blueberri the Blue Monkey arrived for her party. “A cake for me?” Kiwi hid his eyes. Was it a yucky cake, too?
Blueberri took a big bite. Her eyes popped open. “YUM!” she shouted. “This is the best surprise cake EVER!”
Kiwi laughed. The new cake wasn’t in the book. It was a mistake! But it was the most delicious mistake ever. Sometimes, a new idea is the best rule of all.
